CAN - Dr. Steven Shire Memorial Scholarship

The Dr. Steven J. Shire Memorial Scholarship is awarded each year to the Cañada College Digital Art and Animation student who would like to expand her/his knowledge and skill in photography. The award is generously donated by the Shire family in memory of Steve, a scientist and lover of digital art who passed away in June 2017. Steve fulfilled his childhood dream of becoming a chemist and began his career at Genentech where, over 32 years, he achieved more than 10 patents and published around 90 reviews and 100 scientific articles, including his recent book “Monoclonal Antibodies: Meeting the Challenges in Manufacturing, Formulation, Delivery and Stability of Final Drug Product,” (2015). Woodhead Publishing Series on Biomedicine (An imprint of Elsevier, London). Steve was an educator who served as a member of the Keck Graduate Institute Advisory Council, and as an adjunct faculty member of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences for the University of Connecticut, USC School of Pharmacy, and University of Kansas. He volunteered for worthy causes throughout his life. Steve particularly enjoyed multimedia classes in Cañada College’s Digital Art and Animation department and the Shire family has chosen to honor his passion.
